The Piave Vecchia Chiesanuova. A singular river, an ancient Plavense riverbed stretching out to encircle the entire north-eastern edge of the Venice lagoon, has appeared for approximately three centuries transformed into a hydraulic link road connecting and biologically exchanging between the two different river ecosystems represented by the Sile and the Piave. The waters of the Sile, of spring origin, reach Caposile through the Taglio del Sile and are partly pushed up the same Piave Vecchia riverbed until they merge into the new Plavense riverbed.

The Piave Vecchia is the ancient bed of the Piave that the Republic of Venice decided to divert in the seventeenth century to distance it from the lagoon and to defend itself from the dangers of frequent and devastating floods. Here we are in the small hamlet of Chiesanuova, in the municipality of San Donà di Piave.
