In 1864 the barn of the farmer Christof Riek burned down, in 1868 the house of the innkeeper Kluth and also in the 19th century the house of the interim innkeeper F. Lange. In 1891 the local poorhouse and in 1892 a large building with three apartments burned down. In December 1912, flames burned in the homestead of the landowner Friedrich Fahrenkamp. In 1921 a fire destroyed the new house of the businessman Hermann Ritter.

The large number of fires in the small town must have prompted the community to set up a fire department. An entry in the school chronicle from 1929 records the purchase of a fire engine by the community from the Bräunert company in Bitterfeld. The value of the fire apparatus is estimated at 2,500 Reichsmarks.
