Especially in rain or snow, it's important to note that the trail is extremely strenuous (mud EVERYWHERE!). My advice is to pack appropriately for the weather and remember that you're heading into the mountains, meaning the weather can change very quickly.
The lake itself is well worth seeing for anyone who hasn't seen anything like it before.
It should also be noted that if you continue directly from here, you'll reach the glacier, but this is anything but an easy route, so you should have some hiking and mountaineering experience.
