Zwischenahner Meer: spa treatments and water sports

The Zwischenahner Meer is Lower Saxony's third largest inland lake. Its plus: many leisure activities and a well-kept health resort on the south bank - Bad Zwischenahn.

5.3 square kilometers in size, almost three kilometers long and two kilometers wide: only the inland lakes Steinhuder Meer and Dümmer in Lower Saxony are larger than the Zwischenahner Meer. A lot of things revolve around water sports here; there are dozens of sailing boats on the shore. If you don't own your own boat, you can rent pedal, electric or rowing boats from several rental companies; There are also sailing boats in Dreibergen on the north bank.

The windmill in the open-air museum in Bad
Zwischenahn is a two-storey gallery windmill. It dates from 1811 and was initially built in the neighboring Westerstede.
After several changes of ownership, its last location was in Hüllstede near Westerstede. There it threatened to fall into disrepair after it was shut down in 1958 and was moved to the open-air museum in Bad Zwischenahn in 1960 to be saved.
The mill has a functioning grinding mill for crushing and a pan mill that is used to produce oil.
The blades of the mill are 11.20 meters long,
the total height of the mill up to the first cap is 21 meters.

Open-air museum in Bad Zwischenahn

The open-air museum in Bad Zwischenahn consists of a total of 17 houses and outbuildings. The center and main building is the Ammerland farmhouse. The museum grounds are bordered on the west side by the floodplain coming from the Zwischenahner Meer and on the east side by the farmer's forest belonging to the museum. The south bank of the Zwischenahner Meer forms the natural border of the grounds. Overall, it is a farm complex harmoniously integrated into a park landscape.
