The Story of the Northern Plains
Wanuskewin, the nēhiyawēwin (Plains Cree) word roughly translated as 'seeking peace of mind' has been a sacred site and gathering place for more than 6,400 years. Together, we work to advance the understanding and appreciation of the evolving cultures of the Northern Plains Indigenous peoples.

Seated above the opimihaw Creek and South Saskatchewan River, Wanuskewin Heritage Park is a window into part of Canada’s history that remains largely undiscovered. What began as a dream to tell the story of the land and its first peoples has grown into part of a broader national identity.
