The Bachhausen lock was built between June 1985 and October 1989 as part of the construction of the Main-Danube Canal federal waterway.[2] It is designed as a savings lock with three savings basins west of the lock basin and is the southern limit of the canal's apex.
The chamber of the ship's single lock is located at canal kilometer 115.46, has a chamber length of 200 m[4], a usable length of 190 m and a usable width of 12 m. The headwater has a height of 406 m above sea level. NN, the underwater level of the lock is 389 m above sea level. NN. The lock drop height is 17 meters, which is overcome with a lifting or lowering speed of up to 1.7 m/min.[5] A lock takes around 10 minutes.
Immediately east of the lock is the Dürrloh reservoir, which is important for the water balance at the top of the canal and is connected to it by a tunnel from the upper water.
