Round, or Sheep, Mountain stands at 8,450 feet above sea level over the Big Thompson Canyon. This popular summit is reached via a steep trail that winds through open meadows and ponderosa pine forests, and past unique granite rock formations, gaining over 3,000 feet of elevation from the canyon floor. Although the views from the summit are somewhat obstructed by trees and rocks, the views from the trail of Big Thompson canyon, the plains to the east, and Rocky Mountain National Park and the Indian Peaks wilderness to the west are excellent. At the summit there is a huge cairn that supposedly has a steel summit register tube inside.
