St. Nicolai Church is located in the middle of Eckernförde's old town. The church was built over 700 years ago, the sanctuary dates from this time. Today's red brick building with the late Gothic windows and the striking large roof dates back to around 1500.
The church was recently refurbished.

The Sankt-Nicolai-Kirche was originally a single-nave towerless brick church in Romanesque style. The information about their origin varies within a period from 1200 to 1250. In the east of today's building, a part of the former church building can be seen from the outside as a part that looks like a “smaller extension” and can be clearly distinguished from later construction work. Today it serves as a sanctuary.
