Waale were and are canals that farmers built a long time ago (the first were mentioned around 1200) to channel water into dry fields and meadows. Even today, paths lead along these waale, lined with wonderfully complex landscapes. The circular hike begins at Tschars in Vinschgau. From here we follow the marker 1A to a farm entrance, where we also come across the Schnalser Waalweg. Here, however, we continue on the well-marked archaeological hiking trail no. 3. Now we continue eastwards until the hiking trail ends just below Juval Castle. A visit to Juval Castle is definitely worthwhile, as numerous exhibits by the mountaineer Reinhold Messner are on display. The descent takes place on path no. 1, past the Sonnenhof first to Staben. Here we now reach the Stabener Waalweg, which takes us back to Tschars.
