      The beautiful view of Aardeck Castle can be seen directly from the Aartal cycling and hiking path. If you want, you can climb the mountain on which the castle stands on different routes or cycle up. If you're cycling, I recommend using one of the dirt paths.

            If you follow the Aartal Cycle Path, you should briefly turn the handlebars and dare the short but steep climb to the Ardeck Castle ruins – it's worth it, because the castle rocks are a true spectacle. The castle was proudly built in the late 14th century by Count Adolph von Diez, who probably thought he had found the best vantage point here. Unfortunately, history has not been kind to it: wars and neglect led to its slow but picturesque decay. Today, only the mighty keep remains as a silent witness to the past – a perfect place to cautiously gaze through the castle windows into the Aartal Valley. But the ruins are by no means dead! Every two years, they spring to life when the Ardeck Castle Festival fills the old walls with theater and music. You have to experience this contrast: crumbling stones enlivened by living art. A place with soul and spectacle, where you almost forget that below
