Traditions play a big role in the Fischland-Darß-Zingst region. The most visible remnants of the past are probably the colorful doors that decorate many of the houses on the peninsula, especially on the Darß. In Prerow there is a front door path that leads visitors specifically to several of the “Darßer Doors”, which still characterize the townscape today.

The Darßer Doors tell of a time when the people of the region traveled all over the world and brought some of the foreign cultures back home with them. The old Darss doors are also silent witnesses to the superstitions of their former owners and the heyday of sailing, which brought many talented craftsmen to the peninsula.
