Spirit Mound Historic Prairie is a site visited by Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery. They had heard that little people with big heads inhabited the mound. At the mound the expedition didn't find any little people, but did find a very beautiful landscape.
With the damming of the Missouri River is 6 different places, most of the areas visited by Lewis and Clark are now underwater, so Spirit Mound is one of the last places you can visit to walk in the footsteps of the expedition.
Spirit Mound has a rich variety of prairie wildflowers and grasses and is home to Fritillary butterflies, birds and many other prairie animals.
