The pedestrian connection carved into the steep slope of Monte Castiglione is almost 1350m long, three meters wide and is now a tourist attraction. It was created by the German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp; At the turn of the century he stayed regularly on the island during the winter months. Krupp took over most of the financing with 25,000 Italian lire. Construction of Via Krupp began in 1900 and was completed in 1902, shortly before Krupp's death on November 22nd.
