A nobleman known as the "card knight" had sold his soul to the devil in exchange for a carefree life of card games and booze for at least 15 years. He repented and asked forgiveness from Saint Gertrude. He took him to the bridge where the devil was waiting for him. This little bridge, the Duivelsbrugske or Sint-Geertruibrugske where the devil shrank and disappeared when he saw Saint Gertrudis. And the nobleman? He lived a life full of repentance, simplicity and silence.
It's all on the information board but not just here. Everything is also explained to the church of Heppeneert. In front of the church there is a monument with water and the whole story. And behind the church, where the Stations of the Cross is, there is another statue about the legend as well. The story of the card knight, Riddart van het Kasteel Borckhoff, apparently likes to be entertained here. The photos also include some of the "fountain" (with story) and one of the statue behind the church of Heppeneert.
