The Katharina von Papenburg is one of the six ship replicas that make up the Papenburg Open-Air Maritime Museum. The traditional sailors are simply magnificent to look at. This ship is a so-called tea clipper, it could sail faster than other cargo ships and was therefore used for perishable goods on all seas.

The open-air maritime museum in Papenburg is an unusual museum and almost impossible to identify as such, as the replicas of Papenburg sailing ships from the 19th century are spread all over the town. If you want to see the whole museum, a short tour of the Fehnstadt is unavoidable. The ships that play a key role in shaping the tourist image of the canal-rich town on the edge of the Ems include the following ships, staggered from west to east:

GESINE VON PAPENBURG
The Schmack is the only one of the ships that is seaworthy and is located in Papenburg harbor. Regular trips along the Ems and on the Dollart can be booked here. No one who has the opportunity should miss this special experience.

FRIEDERIKE VON PAPENBURG
The magnificently equipped brig is probably the ship that receives the most attention. This is not surprising given its location, directly on the B70 between the town hall and St. Antonius Church. The ship can also be walked on above and below deck. You can also get married here. Certainly not the worst place for such a unique experience.

ANNA VON PAPENBURG
The Spitzmutte is anchored just a few meters away between the Marienkrankenhaus and the Caree. The replica is a typical Papenburg peat transporter, which was the main export item for Papenburg before the 20th century and from which a slowly growing prosperity grew.

KATHARINA VON PAPENBURG
If you walk along the main canal to the end, you will come to the "Wiek" on the left, a road that is nicer for walkers and cyclists to walk or cycle on on the left side of the canal. After a few hundred meters, just before the Papenburg post mill, we find the schooner "Katharina von Papenburg". It is clear at first glance that this is a replica of a fairly fast ocean-going sailing ship.
