The "Kellerberg near Nauborn" includes an oak and hornbeam forest worthy of protection as well as an oak population on the south-facing crest of the Kellerberg. Until the middle of the 20th century the forest was managed as coppice. This means that the trees were "put on the stick", i.e. cut back, after which the forest grew again from new stick eruptions. The oak wood obtained in this way was primarily used to obtain the so-called "oak bark", the oak bark that was needed for tanning leather. This form of management created open and sun-warmed forest locations as a habitat for rare plant species. The "Wilder Stein" also offers a special kind of habitat, a sparsely overgrown rock outcrop in the middle of the forest, which is home to numerous small plant species. There is also an old, disused tunnel in the forest, which serves as a roost for protected bat species.
