The Goa Gajah Elephant Cave is one of the most important sights and sanctuaries in Bali. Non-Hindu visitors are more fascinated by the terrifying cave entrance than the small, plain grotto itself.
The entrance to the cave is formed by the wide open mouth of a stone demon visage with spherical eyes. This is probably the earth god Kala Boma, whose face is the gateway to the most sacred area in many Balinese temples.
