Denser natural lake with an average depth of 13 meters. (Wikipedia)
The lake turns reddish from time to time, which was already mentioned in the church chronicle of 1604 and was interpreted as an omen.
However, the explanation for this is more likely the mass occurrence of water fleas than the cause of the discoloration. They changed their metabolic processes under certain environmental conditions and produced an intense red dye that contributed to the lake's discoloration.
The legend of Lake Denser, on the other hand, sees the solution to the puzzle less scientifically. According to them, it is the fault of young boys who tried to force love happiness by force.
At a church consecration in Dens, three sea maids emerged from the floods to take part in the happy goings-on of the people. When they were ready to jump into the lake again "at midnight", a dull cry was heard. A young fellow who wanted to hold her had "wrested" a glove from a girl. Without him, however, she was not allowed to return to the moated castle. Despite the desperate search, she couldn't find the glove. So she jumped into the water without him. All that was heard was a muffled whistle and a wailing sound. She had lost her life. The waves of the lake turned blood red.
The virgins never came out to share in the joys and delights of people. But today, when there is a great need for war on earth, you can still see the lake as red as blood ...
The full length of the legend can be found in the book "Around the Alheimer" (1982).
