Vals 3000 plus:
The Pizzo Cassinello is the most alpine of the marked three-thousanders in the Valsertal. As its name suggests, it is part of the border ridge to Ticino, the neighboring Valle di Blenio. With its small ice field, it boldly towers over the flat valley floor of the Länta and, built of silver gneiss, contrasts with the green meadows and pastures of the Lampertschalp.
Thanks to its proximity to the Länta Hütte SAC and the Passo Soreda, the Pizzo Cassinello is one of the most climbed mountains in the Valsertal. And rightly so, because the surrounding world of glaciers and the view over the Ticino mountains to Valais and the Bernese and Glarner Alps are spectacular.
The ascent from Passo Soreda to the summit leads over impressive gneiss slabs and light scree. Snow can cover the markers well into the summer. With good visibility, however, the mountain does not offer any orientation problems, and the small lakes on the wayside invite particularly courageous alpine hikers to take a refreshing dip on the descent.
