The 32 meter high Bismarck tower was built in 1903 in honor of the former Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, who died a few years earlier.

From the tower you have a great panoramic view of the fjord and up to Denmark. You are around 100 meters above sea level.

The Scheersberg (sønderjysk Skæsbjerre) in the municipality of Steinbergkirche is about 70 m above sea level. NN one of the highest elevations in the north-east of Schleswig-Holstein. The Scheersberg, with the buildings located there, is today also a district of Steinbergkirche.
Like its surroundings, the Scheersberg was formed by the ground and end moraines of the last glacial period, essentially by large glacier tongues. The name Scheersberg is a takeover of the Danish Skærsbjerg into the German language; it means mountain with stones, which points to the megalithic tombs there. On the Scheersberg there was a large burial mound consisting of two burial chambers.
There has been a tavern on the Scheersberg since 1706, a new building was erected after a fire in 1884.
During the First Schleswig War there was a Danish observation post on the mountain.
A Bismarck tower has stood at the highest point of the Scheersberg since 1903. In 1899, the planning and collection of donations to finance the tower began, also by means of the ashlar donations visible on the tower. The complex with the two burial chambers already mentioned was demolished before the tower was built. The cornerstone was laid on July 18, 1900. The tower was designed to be accessible at full height via internal stairs and therefore has a viewing platform. Flags were displayed on certain occasions or times. In September 2018 the tower was reopened after a long closure. In it is u. a. to visit an exhibition about the history of Schleswig-Holstein.

In 1899 the planning of a tower in the neo-Gothic style in honor of the former Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, who had died the previous year, on the Scheersberg began. In 1900 funding was secured through donations and the foundation stone was laid. [1] The 373 name stones built into the entire tower were particularly effective in raising funds for the Bismarck Tower.

The tower is open during opening hours and can be visited free of charge. The lower floors contain information about the tower's history. The upper floors contain historical information about the border disputes between Denmark and Germany. From the top, you have a magnificent panoramic view.
