    A Russian monument in central Switzerland ??? Yes, General Suworow and his army, fighting the Napoleonic troops, came from Italy across the Gotthard Pass. Hence the monument on the pass!

      The "Russdenkmal" at the Devil's Bridge commemorates the local battle between the Russians crossing the Alps under General Suvorov and the French soldiers under General Lecourbe on September 25th, 1799. The so-called Franzosen-Platz was only inaugurated two hundred years later, on September 25th, 1999.
