The cemetery of the fishing village Pāvilosta was located in the restricted area beyond the harbor during Russian occupation. To prevent escapes, the coast residents were allowed only with special permission and during daylight. "I'll take you to the other side!" behind the harbor was therefore a common macabre joke.
Today, residents developed traditions to be there annually for a small devotion, to commemorate and celebrate life.
