The "Simonsche Anlagen am Schweizerhaus Seelow" are located in the eastern part of the district town of Seelow, directly on the slope to the Oderbruch and are easily accessible via the former B1.
The history of the Schweizerhaus area began in 1838 with the entry in the land register of the town of Seelow. In 1854, the Weinandt family opened the newly built "Schweizerhaus" excursion restaurant. The restorer J. Thiele took over the premises in 1885 and expanded the Schweizerhaus into a modern restaurant in the years that followed. In May 1919, the Berlin banker Hugo Simon bought the tourist restaurant in order to develop the area into a model estate with various production areas.
This resulted in an agricultural area, a fruit and plant cultivation, a poultry farm and a rabbit farm. New buildings were erected for the individual areas, including a replica of Goethe's Weimar garden house, an orangery, residential buildings and an apiary. A transformer house with a tour was built for the power supply. A public park with a large number of sculptures, fountains and flower beds was created on the extensive area in front of the Schweizerhaus. In this way, the area developed into a model estate that is unique in Brandenburg.
Hugo Simon is forced to flee Nazi Germany in 1933, his model estate is expropriated and he never returns here. In the course of land reform after World War II, the estate was continued as VEG Gartenbau Seelow.
In 2010, the city of Seelow bought the area and the home association began to implement its concept. This includes the revitalization of the former model property of horticultural and artistic beauty (today it is in the list of monuments in Brandenburg) and primarily affects the horticultural part. Another goal is to rehabilitate the severely damaged buildings, as far as financially possible, in accordance with monument protection or to partially rebuild them.
