The "Mihai Eminescu" Central University Library in Iasi is the oldest university library and one of the most important libraries in Romania.

Incorporating funds that were part of the former libraries of the princely Academies (the oldest, the Vasilian Academy, from 1640, being at the Three Hierarchs Monastery), the current "Mihai Eminescu" Central University Library in Iași enjoys continuity and stability since the year 1835, as the Library of the Mihăilene Academy, only changing its name over time: the Library of the University of Iasi, the "Ulpia" Library, the Central Library. It functioned, between 1835-1860, in the Mihăilene Academy building, in the old University (currently the University of Medicine and Pharmacy), until 1897, then in the new University (currently the Library and building A of the "Gh. Asachi" Technical University), for that after the Second World War it moved to the building of the "King Ferdinand I" University Foundation, whose library includes it.
