The granite stone cross located on the outskirts of the village is a memento of some personal tragedy that happened several hundred years ago, and a testimony to the law in force in the Middle Ages.

In the 1930s, Max Hellmich, a German researcher of memorabilia of the old law, e.g. gallows and reconciliation crosses (also known as penitential crosses), he made a drawing of the Damianowice cross with an ax engraving during field work. In the Middle Ages, on the stone crosses placed at the crime scene by the murderer, it was customary to place the tool with which someone's life was taken.

Placing the cross was only one of the conditions of the so-called reconciliation (composition) contract concluded by the killer

and the family of the murdered. It consisted in the fact that relatives of the deceased renounced revenge in exchange for compensation, i.e. payment of compensation, which was often a widow's pension and maintenance for orphaned children. As part of the "penance", the killer often paid masses for the victim's souls, incurred court costs and
