Lovely walk. Quite a bit of near climbing using ropes. Shorts not recommended, the grass will cut you to pieces if the path hasn't been maintained. There isn't much info or route info and maps difficult /impossible to obtain. You are discouraged to go without a guide but it is pretty easy to find your way using Komoot to plan and print route map. Compass essential the mists can be very bad. The 2ndary jungly growth is deceptive, the slopes on ridges are severe and if you fall between those trees you aren't coming back up easily. Plenty of water and suggest good torch and batteries in case U don't get round as quick as expected :) I didn't know the trail was closed when I walked it (due to the hurricane 2 years previous), until too late I met a barrier. I carried on and found a tree fall which took 1/2hour to climb over and the path was OK then up Piton Lacroix. Piton de l'Alma this year hopefully. I couldn't find a viable route without cutting trail when I went. I was solo so no chance
