The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square (The Egyptian Museum in Cairo)
This is the classic, world-famous museum in the heart of the city. It houses the most comprehensive collection of ancient Egyptian art in the world.
Features: A magnificent neoclassical building with over 120,000 exhibits.
Tutankhamun Treasures: For decades, this was home to Tutankhamun's mask and gold treasure. While many pieces are being moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum, parts of the collection are often still on display here (check locally for the current status of the move).
Status: Open (Daily 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
