The Moosheide is a district-spanning nature reserve with a size of 442.72 ha, which is mainly (281.83 ha) in Hövelhof in the Paderborn district and to a lesser extent (160.89 ha) in Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock in the Gütersloh district. The seepage springs of the Ems are in this area.

The part of the area in the district of Gütersloh was designated as a nature reserve in 1974 and the part in the district of Paderborn in 2004. It serves to preserve a geomorphologically distinctive landscape area of the upper Senne with geologically significant dune formations, sandy dry fields, heaths, light pine forests, geologically significant dry and water-carrying gorge valley formations with springs, spring streams and wet meadows.

The Ems Springs are the namesake and highlight of the hiking tour. In the approximately 500-meter-long spring area, water seeps out of the earth at numerous points. The upper part of the Ems Springs area belongs to the town of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock. On its 371-kilometer-long route to the North Sea, the young Ems flows 10 kilometers through Hövelhof.

The Ems Springs & Ems Cycle Path Information Center marks the starting point of the Ems Cycle Path, which runs 385 kilometers from Hövelhof to Emden on the North Sea.

The exhibition aims to whet your appetite for the diverse landscapes along the Ems and the many sights worth getting off your bike for. Visitors receive information about the tourist attractions and experience the highlights along the Ems before the trip. The information center vividly describes the Ems springs' source region, especially the special features of the Ems Springs as seepage springs that flow continuously throughout the year. The exhibition also provides information about the Senne landscape, particularly its origins and typical landscape features. A typical Senne cottage depicts the life of the Senne residents around 1900.
