The campground offers expansive views of the San Juan and La Sal mountains in the distance, and the red rock canyon country of McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area and Colorado National Monument. To the southeast you can spot Mount Garfield at the end of the Little Book Cliffs.
Vegetation here is sparse, with only occasional green-ups and wildflower blooms following wet weather. Temperature extremes range from below zero to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, but are more moderate during the spring and fall.
