Herröknanäs consists of a peninsula that flows into Lake Misteln. Do visit if you are interested in flowers, enjoy bird watching or just want to wander around the beautiful and open grasslands. The nature reserve consists of two heights with mountains in the day. Between these heights lies a low-lying area that is almost always flooded in the spring. The wetlands are appreciated by many birds and here you can see redshanks, tufted whippets and common snipe.
The large oaks are a home for many species. Many fungi, lichens, insects and other animals live on and around the oaks. Among other things, the unusual leather beetle thrives in the reserve. It lives as a larva for most of its life inside the hollow oaks. After three or four years, the caterpillar transforms into a beetle, and then it is in a hurry to find a partner to mate with. As a fully grown beetle, it lives only a few weeks in the summer. Getting a glimpse of a leather beetle is difficult. But if you smell dried plums or leather in a hollow old oak tree, you can be pretty sure a leather beetle lives there.
