          With the acquisition of the former Küchwald - Wüstenbrand railway line in October 2018, planning for its use as a cycle path was accelerated. The planning of the premium cycle path on the 13.447 kilometer long former railway line is divided into four main sections with respective subsections. The first construction section runs from Wüstenbrand to Grüna, the second from Grüna to Kalkstrasse (of which construction section 2.1 from Riedstrasse to Kalkstrasse with bridge). The third construction section will be from Kalkstrasse to Paul-Jäckel-Strasse (construction section 3.0: from Kalkstrasse to Rudolf-Krahl-Strasse). The fourth construction section includes the section from Paul-Jäckel-Strasse to Küchwald.

          The rails and sleepers have been removed along the entire length of the former railway line. During the construction work, trees and bushes will also be cleared to create optimal lighting conditions. By implementing the overall measure, the southwest, north and ring routes of the Chemnitz city cycle network will be connected to the planned premium cycle path. This will enable cycle traffic to be routed independently of the public traffic area from Hohenstein-Ernstthal to Chemnitz in the future, thus creating a safe, attractive mid-west connection for cyclists.
