The Porte des Terreaux is a historic gate in Langres. It is one of the gateways to the fortified city, which is surrounded by a 3.5 km wall. The gate was built in the early 13th century to allow military convoys to bypass the city center. The gate had a double drawbridge and a barbican, a defense structure that was later demolished. The gate also has a mâchicoulis cornice (extension above the entrance), a medieval architectural element.

This gateway is the western access to the Vauban city, and its alleys which lead to the 'round' path - an easy tour to do by bike, and not to be missed for its architecture and its panoramas.

Worth seeing in Langres are the 4 km long city walls with twelve towers and seven gates, the Saint Mammes Cathedral, and the Musée d'Art et D'histoire. Its most famous former citizen is the writer and philosopher Denis Diderot (1713-1784), to whom a museum in the city is dedicated.
