        The beaches of the Bay of Somme have a lot of Bunkers which have blended into the scenery or buried in the sand over time. The Blockhaus du Hourdel is one of the bunkers that was built during the Second World War by the Nazi army. This bunker belonged to the Atlantic Wall (“Atlantikwall”)

            These numerous blockhouses were part of the Atlantic Wall. They were built from November 1943. The aim was to prevent the Allied Forces from landing on French beaches. Built from reinforced concrete, they are actually spread across the entire coastline between Norway and the Franco-Spanish border.
