The original owner of the Kellenberg Fortress was initially Mr. Edmund von Barmen and subsequently Gerhard Mulart von Hullhoven. Through the marriage of his daughter, it came to Wilhelm von Wevelinghoven, the hereditary marshal of Cologne, in 1429, then to Scheiffardt von Merode, under whom the current complex was built in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Kellenberg Castle is a moated castle on the northern edge of the village of Barmen, a district of Jülich, on the Rur.

The original owners of Kellenberg Castle were initially Edmund von Barmen and subsequently Gerhard Mulart von Hullhoven. Through his daughter's marriage, it passed to Wilhelm von Wevelinghoven, the hereditary marshal of Cologne, in 1429, then to Scheiffardt von Merode, under whom the current complex was built in the 15th and 16th centuries.

In November 2022, Kellenberg Castle was sold as part of a public bidding process. In November 2023, the Hoensbroech family bought the castle back.
