In Deggendorf, 5 institutions are combined in the St. Katharinenspital Foundation: St. Catherine's hospital church, a retirement home, brewery and beer garden, a forest and the hospital archive. The church dates from the 12th century, a hexagonal building with an attached baptistery. The church was originally built as a mausoleum for the Regensburg patrician family Kant.
