Not many masses are celebrated in St. Theodard's Church anymore, but this "mine cathedral" is more than worth a visit. This has been even more the case since the end of 2023 when the light artwork Cloisterama was inaugurated. First the church itself: it was designed by architect Henry Lacoste, who designed two of the five so-called mining cathedrals with the St. Albertus Church in Zwartberg-Genk. Lacoste is a well-known architect from the interwar period whose credits include the Pavilion of Catholic Life at the 1935 World Exhibition and the former Frans Eyckmans Preventorium in De Haan. The St. Theodardus Church, which existed for eighty years in 2023, shows the hand of Lacoste, among other things, in the symmetrical structure of the church and the gallery.

And it is precisely in that gallery that there is now also a light artwork by the Scot David Batchelor who provided the 68 pointed arches with LED strips. The work was presented at the same time as the restored magnificent light windows of the church. The Sint-Theodarduskerk is the parish church of Beringen-Mijn. The church, located on the Koolmijnlaan, is one of the five mining cathedrals. After the coal mine of Beringen was built, the Beringen-Mijn factory settlement developed alongside it. From 1939-1943, this imposing church was built, which was designed by Henry Lacoste. It is a massive brick building, an example of brick expressionism. The single-aisled cruciform church has a heavy crossing tower that is 71.5 meters high and the spire of which is also made of brick. The walls are decorated by, among other things, the use of miter arches. At the front of the church is a kind of atrium, which is enclosed by a pointed arch gallery. At the rear of the church is a complex of parish buildings grouped around a courtyard. In 1985 the church was given a protected status.
