There are numerous war memorials on the promenade, which trace the blood trail of Prussian-German militarism. One of them is the "Cenotaph at the Mauritztor", also known as the "ham monument". It was built in 1909.

The round monumental monument has a circumference of 23 meters and consists of gray shell limestone. On the pedestal stands a cylinder with a diameter of about five meters and a height of about six meters. There are six rectangular plates separated by niches on the cylinder. The plates show various relief depictions with naked warriors, mourning women, lions, torches, wreath, sword and imperial eagle. The warriors, for example, carry swords as symbols of power, war and victory. A warrior fighting a lion indicates the heroic character.

The entire complex looks significantly different today. The monument originally stood on a round base surrounded by chains, to which several steps led up. The memorial was crowned with a rounded end decorated with stylized eagles.

The monument is a monument registered by the municipal monument authority.
