The library is located in a historic building on the main street of the city, built at the end of the 19th century. The facade and facade of the villa received an eclectic decor referring to the forms of Palladian classicism and French costume, while the administration building has the style features of Art Nouveau.

The factory's villa was built around 1897 by the owner of the "Max Laue & Co.-Neudamm" technical fat factory for the tanning industry located next to it. The owner was later Willy Henning. It has been thoroughly restored and houses the library and the Civil Registry Office. The cartouche with the city's coat of arms - the golden lion of Brunswick on a red field is a preserved remnant of the former town hall in the town square. It was moved from the top of the building during the demolition of the ruins around 1948.

In 2021, a stone monument with the inscription was unveiled in front of the library:
"In memory of those who initiated the work of education,
In thanks to those who continue the work.
With encouragement for those who will do it in the future..."
