Forest located between Gulke Putten and Provincial domain Bulskampveld.
The forest management of the Agency for Nature and Forests strives for a gradual increase in the proportion of native deciduous forest, of which it naturally consisted: mainly oak and pedunculate oak, birch or beech forest.
After all, when purchased it consisted of large parts of coniferous trees. In 2019, protests arose against the cutting of the coniferous forest.
Pedunculate oak, silver birch, buckthorn and mountain ash germinate in clearings.
In the woods and on the edge of the forest, rough field rushes or the pale-spored wood pansy bloom. Mushrooms grow there, including fly agaric, porcini mushrooms, witch boletus and chestnut boletus. Viviparous lizards, roe deer (since 2000), buzzards, hawks, kestrels and tree falcons, sparrow hawks, tawny and long-eared owls, black woodpeckers, nuthatches and matkops live in the Purgatory Woods.
