The fisherman's firm stance and the woman's powerless posture create an impressive contrast. The woman's body forms soft flowing lines, while the male body stands stably upright."

"Adolf Carl Johannes Brütt was born on May 10, 1855 in Husum. After an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor in Kiel, he studied at the Berlin Art Academy from 1875-1878 and was a master student of the sculptor Leopold Rau He received the gold medal in Paris in 1900, also made him known beyond the German borders.He also received gold medals for his exhibitions in Berlin, Melbourne, St. Louis in 1904 and Chicago in 1893. He was a professor and senator at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin and is considered one of the main representatives of North German realism. Adolf Brütt died on November 6, 1939 in Bad Berka/Thuringia. His estate is managed by the North Sea Museum Nissenhaus in Husum."
