The origins of the Forest Chapel are closely linked to the turbulent history of the First World War. When the parish church of Sesto was severely damaged in 1917, the then pastor and some farmers decided to build a new, simple chapel in the forest. In just two weeks, with great effort and the simplest of means, they erected a small wooden church. The necessary building materials came from a hay barn that had previously collapsed under the weight of snow.
