GĄSAWA and MARCINKOWO GÓRNE - the place of the congress of the Piast dukes and the death of Prince Leszek the White in 1227.

The congress was attended by the most important Piasts at that time: the princes of Sandomierz and Cracow, Leszek the White, the prince of Silesia, Henry the Bearded, and the prince of Masovia, Konrad, accompanied by bishops and numerous representatives of powerful families.

This is how Jan Długosz describes it: "A terrible crime took place during the meeting - thanks to Odonic and Świętopełk. The attackers surprised Leszek Biały in the bathhouse. bathhouse, and mounting a horse handed to him by his men, he begins to run away." According to one of the sources, the prince galloping on horseback was struck by an arrow and gave up the ghost. The monument depicts a naked Leszek on a horse with an arrow in his back. The death of Leszek the White postponed the idea of unifying Poland under one crown for over 100 years.
