The history of the 12,000-ton press in Terni began in 1934 when the Italian government entrusted the "Terni" company with the implementation of the armament programs which required the preparation of a new fleet of battleships. To eliminate as soon as possible the shortcomings of an industry that was weak in plant engineering.
On 17 July 1934, the Terni Company decided to order the 12,000-ton press from the English company Davy Brothers as part of the infrastructure modernization project. The contribution of the press is decisive both in war and civil production.
