Located off the coast between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Ilhabela, at 340 square kilometers, is the largest Brazilian island in the Atlantic. Its white sand beaches, lush rainforest, and imposing mountain peaks make Ilhabela an incredible destination for a Brazilian vacation.
In the past, Ilhabela served as a refuge for English pirates, who anchored on its long sandy beaches. Today, the island has about 35,000 inhabitants, and every year, especially between late December and mid-February, hundreds of thousands of tourists visit Ilhabela.
There is no road leading to the village of Bonete, so it is not possible to reach it by car. Most people arrive by boat (water taxi), and very few hike through the Natural Park to Bonete. Along the way, you cross two precarious suspension bridges, offering a unique natural experience.
