The Granetalsperre, built in 1969, is the youngest of the Harz dams and was built in the Granetal. Since the river Grane itself did not carry enough water for the 3 km long lake, an approx. 7.4 km long tunnel to the Oker was created below the Oker dam. This also takes in water from the Gose on the way. Another 4.8 km long tunnel leads from the Radau to the Großer Romke and thus also into the Oker-Grane tunnel. There is also an underground connection to the Innerste Reservoir.

Stamp point 110 / Grane Reservoir
The Grane Dam is located above the Langelsheim district of Astfeld/Herzog Juliushütte.

The Grane Dam is the youngest of the Harz Dams, built in 1969, and was built in the Grane Valley. Since the Grane River itself did not have enough water for the 3 km long lake, a 7.4 km long tunnel was built to the Oker below the Oker Dam. This also takes in water from the Gose along the way. Another 4.8 km long tunnel leads from the Radau to the Große Romke and thus also into the Oker-Grane tunnel. There is also an underground connection to the Innerste Dam.

The stamp point is on the east side of the reservoir and can be reached most quickly from the “Unter den Eichen” car park above the Goslar district of Steinberg.

You can combine the tour wonderfully with the HWN 111 Steinbergturm and then stop off at the Steinbergalm.

The Granestausee is very nice to drive around and the Herzog Juliushütte car park is a good starting point for tours to the Steinbergalm and the Steinbergturm, Rammelsberg or the Altarklippen.
