The Siegfried Line, also known as the Siegfried Line by the Western Allies, was a military defense system along the western border of the German Empire, spread over about 630 km and consisting of over 18,000 bunkers, tunnels and countless trenches and anti-tank barriers. It ran from Kleve on the Dutch border in a southerly direction to Grenzach-Wyhlen on the Swiss border.
Hitler had the facility, which had both military and propaganda value, planned from 1936 and built between 1938 and 1940.
