The western bridge forecourt extends between the western bridge exit and the Emscherland Landscape Park with "Glass Shaft". The western bridge forecourt forms with the Square of Layers a clasp and thus inserts the building into the landscape.

As a pedestrian and cycle path bridge, it will in future accommodate the regional cycle paths Emscher-Park-Radweg and Emscher-Weg, thus linking the two cities of Castrop-Rauxel and Recklinghausen. The densely populated districts of Castrop-Rauxel-Ickern, -Habinghorst and -Henrichenburg are connected to the nature and water adventure park in Recklinghausen." - Emschergenossenschaft Lippeverband
