Excerpt from the chronicle of the Zum Stift brewery restaurant
740, The missionaries Magnus and Theodor make a pilgrimage from the monastery of St. Gallen to the Allgäu. A mission office with St. Mary's Church is established in Kempten, the later Benedictine monastery Hildegard, wife of Charlemagne, supports the young monastery
1394, First documented mention of the monastery's brewery in the Stiftschen Saalbuch
1618-1648, destruction of the inn in the Thirty Years' War
1786, The brewery on Memminger Straße burns down to the ground. 2 years later, the brewery is rebuilt by the prince abbot. The prince abbey and the princely brewery become the property of the Elector of Bavaria

Rustic furnished, nice restaurant with inviting beer garden in central location of Kempten. Friendly service and tasty food at reasonable prices. The well-known 100 year old, distinctive tavern in the middle of Kempten, where already in the early Middle Ages the abbey brewery mentioned in 1394 was located, is always worth a visit.

The Zum Stift brewery restaurant is a striking pub in Kempten (Allgäu). The appearance of the neo-baroque monument, built in 1906, was influenced by Andor Ákos. Striking details of the three-story house are the bay window tower and the tail gable. In addition to the three-story main building, the restaurant also includes the attached, significantly lower Old Brauhaus behind it.
