Monastery of the Madre de Dios de Miraflores, a Franciscan monastery of which only the church remains. It was the ninth monastery of this order, where the remains of the most famous people and the first nobility of Lanzarote rested.
The monastery is thanks to Sancho de Herrera (the Elder), Lord of Lanzarote, who in 1534 commissioned the construction of a monastery of the monks of S. Francisco in the Famara orchard.
When the Algerians ravaged the island in 1618, the monastery was burned down and its jewels were also stolen.

The convent is officially called 'Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Miraflores' but is popularly known as 'Convento de San Francisco' as it is the ninth temple of the Franciscan Order in the Canary Islands.
In 1588 Gonzalo Argote ordered the construction of the religious complex, which lasted until 1598. The idea was to be a stately pantheon (a sanctuary dedicated to all gods), but this ultimately prevented its completion. Large parts of the original building were destroyed in 1618 during the 'great invasion'.
