There is a well-developed forest path in the city forest of the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald. It leads through pine forests (“Tannenkamp”) as well as in old beech forests (“Bückhorst”) and past reforestations, some of which were carried out with school classes. As a master plan municipality, the Hanseatic City of Greifswald has set itself ambitious climate protection goals: greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced by 95 percent by 2050 and final energy sales by 50 percent compared to 1990 [greifswald.de/de/wirtschaft -construction-traffic/environment-and-climate-protection/climate-protection/]. For the regional climate it is absolutely sufficient or to plant a little more trees than are removed, since the forest binds carbon from the air and stores water and reduces evaporation and overheating. The forests of tomorrow are a mixture of mainly deciduous tree species, but also conifers. The pedunculate oak is climatically adapted.
